Life is an adventure. From trying new foods to getting in the car, everything is an adventure. This past Sunday, I tried the famous cui aka gunni pig. I did not feel adventurous enough to eat the head, that's my Tia's favorite part anyway, but I did eat most of the body and even tried the intestines.the meat tastes like chicken, but there's very little actual meat on the little critter. Most of what I ate, or what I think I ate, was the crispy fried skin of the cui. It's flavor was incredibly unique and salty. Nevertheless, I enjoyed eating the gunni pig. He was delicious.
Another fun adventure is getting places. By bus, my brother driving, taxi, all are adventures in it of themselves. My school bus is a little bigger than a minivan and we fit 15-17 people in my "bus" on a daily basis. My seat does not have a seatbelt and I sit facing backwards. I spend most of my time on the bus hoping I don't fall into the people in front of me. When my brother drives, I occasionally fear for my life. Occasionally. Between the traffic and his speed, it's normally a bumpy ride. But I haven't died yet! And the taxi. That's the biggest transportation adventure of all. Sometimes, I'll get an awesome taxi driver that talks to me and takes me straight to where I need to go. Most of the time, I get a taxi driver that doesn't talk to me and takes the absolute longest way to get to where I'm going as to jack up the price. Then we have this talk,"I know I'm a gringa but I'm not that much of a gringa. I can walk there from here. Thank you very much." But still the most expensive taxi I have ever taken was $1.98 so I really can't complain.
Life here is an adventure, and I absolutely love it! I wouldn't change a single thing. From trying new and strange food to getting places, all of it has become a new way of life for me. The adventure is new and exciting, and it is just what I hoped for.
